Kodaikanal
The high season for tourism to Kodaikanal is mainly during the hot summer months April - June. This is also considered ‘honeymoon’ season and a lot of honeymooners come to 'Kodai' during the time when Sathya Sai Baba is there.
Darshan crowds are generally large; with 2-3,000 people attending each darshan.
Kodai is cold during nights and early mornings during April and warms up by noon. It is recommended that you bring a raincoat for Kodai, as it may rain a lot and umbrellas are not permitted in darshan.
Bring extra socks (3-4 pairs minimum), warm nightclothes, extra blanket, and shawl for mornings and evenings (very good shawls are for sale in the Tibetan market).
In Kodaikanal a group of overseas visitors sometimes get selected by Sathya Sai Baba to sing bhajans. If this is really a wish of yours, practise on those bhajans well and keep yourself posted whom is having a bhajan-group and if you can join!
Hotels and Hostels
Hotels in Kodai are quite expensive and rooms do not always live up to their rates.
Rates commonly vary from Rs. 100 per night for very basic accommodation (usually dormitory) to Rs. 3,000 per night for five star living.
Most rooms, except in more expensive places, are from Rs. 700 a night and up, lack a heater or a fireplace, which is quite necessary if it is raining daily. A heater or fireplace will also dry the laundry, which may otherwise require two days to dry.
All rates vary from year to year and those presented are only approximate. Rates mentioned are for high seasons when Sri Sathya Sai Baba stays in Kodai.
Talks by staff and daily discourses by Sathya Sai Baba are often given in Kodaikanal after his second week in Kodai, in the Bhajan hall.
Saris and blankets are usually distributed to the poor, and prasadam given to all visitors on 27th April, and on Easwaramma Day, 6th May.
